会长留言(President Message)

怀着感恩的心情，我正式接任槟州家具与木材同业商会第26届理事会会长一职。感谢各位会员的信任与支持。这不仅是一份荣誉，更是一份沉甸甸的使命。

当前，家具行业正面对前所未有的挑战：原材料、电费、柴油价格大幅上涨，外劳成本攀升，政府政策调整，加上中国同行的价格竞争，企业整体成本不断被推高。若不主动求变，未来将有越来越多同业难以承受。越是困难，越要聚焦我们可以掌控的事情：产品、效率，以及为客户创造的价值。市场不会因环境恶劣而停止竞争，反而会加速淘汰弱势企业。与其等待转机，不如主动调整方向。

我们将积极向政府反映行业实况，争取更公平的竞争条件及对中小企业的实际支持，为企业发展争取更大空间。企业必须自我提升、主动转型，不能停留在旧有模式。我们要推动创新，拓展多元发展路径，善用线上平台从B2B走向B2C，并积极运用AI等科技工具提升效率与竞争力。同时加强行业内部的团结与合作，凝聚中小企业力量，分享经验与技术，共同成长。

从效率、品质到设计与品牌，我们必须持续进步，摆脱价格战，走向更高价值、更可持续的发展方向，走在时代前端，主动拥抱变化。困难是阶段性的。中国竞争虽不容忽视，但我们拥有地利、服务与本地化优势。竞争也带来学习机会，推动我们不断进步，最终实现共同发展与双赢。

只要团结一致、坚定前行，定能把挑战转为机会，让公会更具凝聚力，行业更具竞争力。未来的路，需要各位会员继续支持与参与。让我们携手并肩，开创一个更稳健、更有希望的家具行业未来。

It is with gratitude that I assume the role of president of the 26th Penang Furniture & Timber Industry Association. Thank you for your trust and support. This is both an honour and a heavy responsibility.

Today, the furniture industry faces unprecedented challenges: rising costs of raw materials, electricity, diesel, and foreign labour; government policy adjustments; and price competition from China. All these factors are driving up business costs. Unless we seek change, more of our peers will struggle to survive. The harder the situation, the more we must focus on what we can control: our products, efficiency, and customer value. The market will not pause competition; it will accelerate the elimination of weaker players. Rather than waiting for a turnaround, we must adjust course now.

We will convey the industry's realities to the government, striving for fairer competition and tangible support for SMEs. At the same time, enterprises must transform themselves and stop clinging to outdated models. We must drive innovation, explore diverse development paths, use online platforms to shift from B2B to B2C, and employ AI tools to enhance efficiency and competitiveness. We must also strengthen unity within the industry, pool SME strengths, share experience and technology, and grow together.

From efficiency and quality to design and branding, we must continually improve, move away from price wars, and pursue a higher-value, sustainable path. We must stay at the forefront and embrace change. Difficulties are temporary. While competition from China is intense, we have advantages in geographical proximity, service quality, and localisation. Competition also offers learning opportunities, driving us to improve and achieve shared success.

As long as we remain united and move forward with determination, we will turn challenges into opportunities, making our Association more cohesive and our industry more competitive. The path ahead requires your continued support and participation. Let us stand shoulder to shoulder to forge a stronger, more promising future for the furniture industry. Thank you.
